For the past couple of days I have been lending a hand where I can for the community Christmas at in Brunswick. It has been exiting to collect, sort, and even shop for the gifts for the kids. However today I was tasked with putting together a bike that was still in the box. how hard could it really be. Right?!?!
All was going great, i opened the box and all the parts where there and I knew where they were suppose to go. There were only about 6 steps to putting this little guy together. So off i went to get started and at step 1 there was an issue. The fork was too narrow for the wheel, or i guess you could say the hub was too wide. Regardless it was not going to work in the current state. So, being that it was only step 1 I was determined to get this thing going. So I thought about ways to stretch the fork and be able to get the wheel on. So i found some kayak straps and used the tree and our fence as anchors and gently coaxed the wheel into place. the rest of the “build” took less than 10 min (but if Katie asks it was 2 hours)
While doing the work I was so determined to make it work because it meant the difference between a bike no Christmas or not for some little boy in the community. I Love my bike and there was something in side of me that wanted him to encounter this too. It is a humbling experience to be able to serve in the oddest of ways sometimes.
