Practical Faith for Practical People

fussy baby=reading time

The past couple of days Bethany has been fussy.  I don’t think she feels that great and maybe a new tooth is coming.  So I have been us more than usual.  So i have taken this time to read more and so in the past 2 days I have read 3 rather good books.

The first, Momentum for life,by Mike Slaughter.  Mike is the Pastor of Ginghamsburg church.  It is a good read that is made better if you know how Mike practices what he preaches.  The book is all about living FULLY into the calling that God has in store for your life.  Through DRIVE (Devotion to God, Readiness for life long learning, Investing in key relationships, Vision for the future, Eating and exercising for life).

Mike walks readers through the fact that if you are going to lead others you have to be able to lead yourself first.  If you are looking for a way that focuses you into a life of renewed energy.  Give it a read

The second is a book called Bounce: the art of turning tough times into triumph.  This one was recommended to me by a friend and it is a different twist on the same old leadership book.  It is about leading through tough times as the title woudl suggest, but it is done in a narrative between 2 friends.  There is conversation about the way anxiety can become like the fuel for change, and how faithful and strong leadership may mean hard decisions, but the community can be stronger from it.  The last section is the cliff notes version of all the stuff you would have highlighted in the rest of the book.  It is a quick read that doesn’t feel like a leadership book.

Finally, I picked up this book because it looked interesting and I hadn’t read anything by Tony before.  I think I have another in the pile to read next.  It is short little book to get you thinking about how to get the most out of church structure and the leaders.  This is something that we are exploring at Faithpoint for the coming year and this one made the list because I am gathering up some resources.  The book is good if you are looking for something like it.  Gives you some good ideas about what to look for in the team.

That is it for now, lets see what is next.
