Hospitality is an “all play” ministry of every member of the church community. It’s a way that we extend God’s grace in a very tangible way to every single person who walks through the doors of a ministry activity.
By extending hospitality, we recognize that we come to church for more than a cup of coffee and a superficial greeting. We long for something more.
People aren’t looking for friendly people. They’re looking for friendships and lasting connections.
Many times, people seek out a church when something big has happened in their lives such as the birth of a baby, the death of a family member or close friend, the beginning of treatment for an addiction, or any other life-changing event. When the church offers up un conditional hospitality it reflects the Kingdom of God. Offering welcome and belonging says to each person that walked through the doors, no matter where you have been, your current circumstances, or your anxiety about the future, there is a place for you here.”
This message is not just comforting to first time guests, but long time attenders too. To know the church community will always be there to equip and empower you to live a life of hope and connection makes the demands of life and cost of discipleship more doable.
Bet you didn’t think the offer of coffee was that powerful did you?
In the following posts I will spotlight some ways we can ensure we are making space and caring for each person who comes as a first time guest or ling-time attended.
