Living apart from God?

So I was listening to a very good sermon a little while ago…but there was something that was said that has stuck with me. Even about a month after i heard it I am still thinking about it. The pastor made the comment in passing about how at times we live in relationship with God and others/other times we live apart from God.
Can we live apart from God?

I understand condemnation, hell or what have you as eternity lived without the presence of God. Or eternal separation from God. But my trouble is that the language that was used was that God was not there with us.

Yet I would contend that God is always with us. We have never been separated from God. When bad things happen or we make a poor choice it doesn’t mean that God is absent.

However I would challenge you that we choose not to hear what God is saying to us. At times I would think that we don’t even know how to listen for God. But we are never apart from God. God is always there. God is walking the long road with us through Jesus. God is weeping with you in your loss and there to console you when you struggle.

We are never apart from God!
