Practical Faith for Practical People

Faith Lab: Fancy Nancy

playhouse-6There is a children’s book series that my sister-in-law introduced to Eden called Fancy Nancy.

Fancy Nancy is a little girl who will not settle for a boring, ordinary day.  She makes everything fancy by saying words in French, making her own place mats and taking an everyday meal and adding “fancy-ness”.  The other night Eden was not in the mood to any kind of dinner.  I had exhausted all of my options.  Finally I suggested that we make a Fancy Sandwich and some pickle kabobs (the child has a powerful palate for pickles).  “Wow that would be perfect, Daddy!!!” Eden said.  So, with a little bit of fancy the night was saved and dinner was served.

In our ministries we don’t have to have the biggest and the best.  Sometimes a new twist or a different perspective can make the same old ordinary event wonderful and new.

Instead a side order of pickles, throw them on toothpicks and make kabobs.  Instead of playing regular basketball, use toilet paper as the ball.  Don’t be afraid to change it up.  Be confidant in your quirkiness and it will become infectious.  This week fancy-up the boring and see how it changes things.
