Tonight is our confirmation lock-in. I am always excited about this weekend becuse it is a great time to get to know the kids in a different way. We are able to get three different lessons done through then next day and a half. Plus we have some fun playing great games.
I am hoping to take some fun pics and getat least a couple of them up online.
great time at the news boys concert
So after the justice conference and with March being our advocacy month at youth group i have been thinking a lot about way to not only heal the individual hurt, but also find ways to address the systemic problems we face in the world.
I think i was struck yesterday when the pastor of churchinbethesda.org talked about how his congregation was apolitical. I had just had a couple of days of why the church should be all about changing the world through doing justice, and then this guy says that he doesn’t even touch it.
Man I am surprisingly on the side of the Methodist Church on this one. Who what have thought. I starkly remember in high school not even trying to make a faith and government connection and now i am ready to go to a rally. Maybe even get arrested…well just maybe. 🙂
Think about what makes you tick.
Think about the things that make you, you.
You look differently, talk differently, think differently and smell differently than anyone else and that is a wonderful gift. It is easy to think about the ways that we are unique individuals.
But have we thought about this in terms of our church? I have come to think about this as our ministry DNA. you know the things that make us tick. There are more ways to do church than there are dollars in our national debt. I have been asking myself for a little while what makes my congregation the community of faith that it is?
For a while we have been trying to get a feel for who MUMC is. What is the foundation of our congregation. Where do we fall in the areas of worship, faith development, generosity, hospitality and misisons? When we look past worship style and topic of bible study what are we as a community of faith? It is exciting to think about this to them push beyond and more forward for the next step of the congregation’s life.
If you would like to join in the conversation I would invite you to let your voice be heard. Download the DNA form attached here and fill it out. Bring it to me or send it to me and let your voice be heard.
After the first day of the social justice conference I have gotten a ton of information. there are a number of resources and ideas that i have to bring back to MUMC. I am really excited. Also we ate at an all organic restaurant and got to talk to some new people and reconnect with seminary friends.
ran 6 miles on the hotel death trap treadmill
I am really interested about what tomorrow will bring. 🙂
I am going to try and get another post out before i get going tomorrow from Victoria’s sermon on trust and risk.
go and take a listen at mtownumc.org
This week Katie and I are going to be in DC with a social justice conference. It looks like it is going to be a ton of interesting stuff. We are going to go to have a session with Arab-American anti discrimination council, meet some congress people, talk about health care a s a human right, go to an all organic restaurant for dinner that is totally self sufficient in growing its food and much more.
The downside is that we are gone from Eden and the Kronk dog for a while.
Should be interesting.
