Advent Devotional December 17, 2017

There are times where it is good to be together to celebrate, even for introverts.  As the people of God we are called to make the circle of God’s community wider and wider.  Community is, in part, what it means to be made in the image of God.  Today we talk about how we might heal division and work toward being made one in the Spirit.

What tools do you use to get yourself organized?  I use 2 formats to help me get my month, week and days in order.  My big plans are made with some sheets from passion planner (http://www.passionplanner.com/downloads/) , and the I use daily emergent task planner sheets(http://davidseah.com/node/the-emergent-task-planner/ ).

I am not totally organized, but they help free up time and limit some wheel spinning.  But the question is for what? Today Rohr calls us to focus in on what is most important and let go of other things.  What one or two things do you need to do well? What do you have to stop doing to do that?

Today we are 10 days out from Christmas and we are talking about how we receive gifts.  Today’s question is, “how can you receive instead of manage life?” How does managing give you a sense of importance? How does receiving give you a sense of unimportance?

Are you one of the good guys or the bad guys? Would you be a stormtrooper or part of the rebellion?  Are you half full or half empty.  Today we look at ways we might get around dualistic thinking and grow in the faith through listening to Jesus. Today we ask, “do you tend to think dualistically? Does it help you to be more loving? Does it help you to be more obedient to the gospel?”

God is willing to go to extreme lengths to connect with you.  To the point of leaving the others so that you will be brought back into the community.  God, and a good church, will also be willing to go back to the basics whe needs and rebuild the foundation.  Today we ask the question, “When have you been so lost that you’ve had to go back to the very foundations of your faith?”
