Pass it on

October 29th, 2008

lunchOn Sunday I met Katie and Eden for lunch at McDonald’s for a very fancy meal (oh yeah big spenders). We sat down, ate and watched people play with the giant slide puzzle (you can see a guy with camo on playing with it in the pic).

We had a delightful meal and then Katie went to a meeting and Eden and I finished our food, but not before something struck me.  Eden was eating only her bun with Ketchup on it. This is
not something that is very strange I guess but it got me thinking. Katie loves Ketchup sandwiches. I was mesmerized but the fact that Eden was chomping down on a Ketchup soaked piece of bread.

I had just read a passage from Deutoeronmy 6 the day before where the people of Israel are being told how to pass on their faith to the next generation. Here is what it says:

The Smell of Fall

October 8th, 2008

Today as i went out to the car and began getting things ready for the day I caught wind of a fire heating a near by home.  Fireplaces are one of the tell tail signs for me that winter is on the way and fall is here.  I can’t wait for the leaves to change and the valley to be filled with wonderful color.  :-)
I hope to get out and take some pictures of the sun set one evening soon.
Tomorrow I am going to be Scrubbing Up with Katie and other pastors to visit the OR at the Hagerstown Hospital.  Woot should have a pic or two from that

The trapper’s log

August 24th, 2008

So we have yet to be sucessful at capturing the thing that is living under our shed. When I say we I am referring to me and my dog, Kronk. But tonight we are taking a step up. We almost go something last night, and now I have gotten tips on my technique. Also, I have procured an even larger trap (which I know works because I managed to get my arm stuck arming the trap).

So now we have two traps. A smaller one that has last night’s Chicken Kiev in it with a side of ants. and the mondo trap baited with a cupcake. take a look at these pictures and tell me you wouldn’t wonder in for a snack Read the rest of this entry »

This week at church we have a choir camp going on that is doing a play called “Are We there yet?” It chronicles the journey of moses from baby adrift in the river to the triumphant entry to the promise land.

As I read through the scrip so that i could do a little devo with the kids today I thought about the way that Moses was a really great pastor. I was reminded of the willingness he had to serve and go out on a limb for God.

Thought then filled my mind of what kind of youth worker Moses would have been. I think that it would be fun to do a series of posts about ministry learnings from Moses…like would Moses have had wii and PS3 in his ministry to draw kids in? Well he did have some show stopping performances (with God’s help) like the stick truing into a snake thing and others. Or how about one on dealing with unruly kids…Moses style. What to do when you turn your back for one second and the next thing you know you have a golden calf in the youth room?

I think that there is some potential there…

Come to worship this Saturday for the play and be inspired to add to possible posts.

It’s been 19 years since a swashbuckling Indiana Jones smashed through the box office and entertained big screen viewers with his mix of intelligence, sarcasm and action-packed adventure. Though many of today’s teens have never seen the series of Indy adventures their parents came of age watching, Jones’ return in The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has the potential to change all that.

I can’t wait

Facebook intigration

May 23rd, 2008

I am trying to connect the blog to my facebook account. We will see how it goes…

So I had this idea today about Annual Conference and some of the ways that I could bring back some of the important issues to you.  So, As i pack my bags and get ready to head out I thought that I would post this just to see with happens.

If there are any questions that you would like to ask the leadership of the church i would love to hear them so that i could try and find out an answer for you.  The responses may then be from a conversation, e-mail, or i wold really love to set up a time to meet with some people and make a podcast interview (and probably could have if i would have thought ahead).

post comments with your questions and i will see what i can do to get them anwsered.  Also this will give me a mission while I am there.

Connection with Uganda

May 20th, 2008

I just has a very interesting conversation with a pastor form Uganda via Facebook…who would have thought.  Apparently Pastor Samuel works with youth right near the source of the Nile River.  Never in my years have I used Facebook, AIM, or the net in general to have one on one conversation and networking on such a global scale.

It was a truly eye opening experience.  Usually networking to me is getting word out to youth about events or things that we are planning.  This was really neat.
